Staff profile: Sandy Lin – CIE Programme Manager

Can you tell me a little bit about your background and how you ended up at CIE?

Prior to joining CIE, I held various roles at the university where I supported students in developing academic and research skills to achieve their learning goals. These roles included designing and creating experiences that foster innovative research, academic writing, communication skills, and navigation of the learning journey. I greatly enjoyed creating these experiences for others, which led me to CIE. I am grateful to continue being part of others’ learning journeys in my current role, supporting them in discovering their full potential.

What is your favourite part about your job?

Sharing experiences and growing with others. This place radiates a unique energy, created by the people who form our community. It is a privilege to be part of the growth and development journey with our programme participants. Their energy is contagious, their commitment is motivating, and the impact they create is life-changing.

What advice would you give people who aren’t sure if innovation and entrepreneurship is for them?

As a student, I used to think that innovation and entrepreneurship were solely about business and owning a company. But that’s not the case! Anyone can be innovative and develop an entrepreneurial mindset if they choose to. Our various programmes at CIE are designed to meet you where you are. Whether you’re an absolute beginner, someone who believes entrepreneurship isn’t for them, or you’re already working on your own start-up, we have something for you. Whether you’re a business student, an arts student, professional staff, or an academic researcher, if you have the desire to solve problems and create a positive impact, there’s a place for you in innovation and entrepreneurship.

If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?

I would have dinner with family. Time with family is always precious.

When you’re not working, what will we find you doing?

Spending time with my family, making food, eating, going on walks, being outdoors in the sunshine and running after my toddler in playgrounds.
