Week 4 started off just perfectly
We got an insight into the story behind Chinese New Year Celebrations and scrumptious lunch. Potluck lunch was an amazing opportunity to experience the cultural food. The variety of contribution was mind-blowing – dumplings, spring rolls, rice cakes, chocolates, cookies…! The history and the traditions were equally exciting – it marks the victory over the monster Nian and thus they celebrate it by putting up decorations, having reunion dinner with family, fireworks and exchanging gifts.
This week was different also because we had two amazing professionals to talk about the most important business aspects – Finances and Sales. We were pleased to have Mr. Andrew Steel to introduce us to the most important ingredients of financing world – cash flow statement, profit and loss statement and balance sheet. He engaged us in an interesting manner and made it easy for engineering students as well. After all, Warren Buffet had said that accounting is the language of business and can’t be ignored.
The next session on sales was a bit surprising due to the fact that selling isn’t much focused on despite it’s huge impact on any business. Sales is not only about selling but building trust, educating and inspiring customers to stay. The Paretoʼs principle of 80-20 concept was one big lesson. It not only taught us all to build better strategies for our ventures but how it could be applied in different areas of life as well.
The entire cohort of Summer Lab was kept in suspense for a week in the name of some fun activity coming up. Well, it was all worth the wait! BUMPER BALL SOCCER GAME!! Summer Lab not only unleashes your entrepreneurial spirit but also lets your inner child come out for better. Through the game, we learned that when you fall down you gotta get back up no matter how bad it hurts since what defines us is how we rise after falling. More fun part? The winning team won vouchers too for their efforts.
