CNC router

The Maker Space has a Roland Modela MDS-50 milling machine that you can use to cut and shape 3D objects out of a hard block material.

What is a CNC router?

A computer numerical control (CNC) router is a computer-controlled cutting machine related to the hand-held router, used for cutting various hard materials, such as wood, composites, plastic, glass and foams. It is an example of subtractive manufacturing.

What can you do with it?

You can use the CNC router to create more durable prototypes and models than you can with a 3D printer. You can use it to cut, bevel, straighten and otherwise mold the material into any shape you want. Some of the objects you can create include: 

• Plaques
• Topographical maps
• Ornamental designs
• Cooking and eating utensils
• Toys
• Works of art

Ready to get started?

To use the CNC router for your own project, you’ll first need to gain access to the Maker Space by signing up, and then you’ll need to book an equipment training session.
