Soldering and desoldering station
The Maker Space has one HAKKO FX950-17 soldering iron, one Hakko FM204-15 desoldering station and FM2027 soldering iron, and two Weller soldering irons that you can use to craft a variety of electrical and electronic components.
What is a soldering iron?
A soldering iron is used for melting solder to join electrical components together, such as resistors, capacitors and circuit boards. Soldering works to create firm joints between different pieces of metal used to make a single item. It is essential to create secure connections between wires to ensure electronic equipment works properly.
What can you do with it?
You can use our soldering and desoldering station to make a variety of electrical and electronic components, from small computing devices to robots, and dedicated circuit boards to light and sound generators.
Ready to get started?
To use our soldering irons for your own project, you’ll first need to gain access to the Maker Space by signing up, and then you’ll need to book an equipment training session.
To help you create whatever you imagine, download our quick reference user guide and ‘inspire’ guide; and for hands-on guidance, you can attend one of our regular workshops. We also have trained creative technologists onsite to lend a hand.
