Alumni profile: Iyia Liu
Founder | Waist Trainer, Luxe Fitness and Bambi Boutique
Iyia Liu is a 24 year-old entrepreneur who grew her e-commerce site selling waist trainers into a multi-million dollar business in one year. While this may seem like an overnight success, Iyia learned from trial and error with a previous online clothing store.
Iyia encourages those considering an entrepreneurial path to start young, take risks and never give up.
“My favourite saying is ‘one day, or day one?’ This stems from all the people who have so many great ideas in their mind, but don’t take action and don’t end up pursuing anything. Action is important, and the best advice I have been given is to just try something out, pivot and learn.”
She found that studying for a BCom taught her valuable skills in work ethic. Completing tasks on time and to a certain standard have been great training in working hard to achieve more. She also gained inspiration from being a Velocity participant while she was studying.
Iyia has recently sold two of her startup businesses but shows no signs of slowing down. She has since started Bambi Boutique as well as creating a ‘Girls in Business’ Facebook page to share the knowledge she has learnt throughout her entrepreneurial journey.
“You can’t achieve greatness without putting in time, effort and love, and you also need to believe in yourself and believe in your business to push it further.”
Iyia Liu graduated from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Commerce.
