Alumni profile: Michael Lovegrove

Co-Founder and CEO at JRNY | Founder at OneStay

Michael’s first job after graduating in 2014 was leading a tech team of five people, and by the age of 23 he had started two companies. The vision for JRNY, one of these businesses, is to be the number one solution for companies looking to grow their business by providing ‘emotionally intelligent conversations’. They do this by providing customers with an artificially intelligent messaging service via the customer’s website or favourite messaging service.

“I think entrepreneurship and the associated mindset are the outcome of two things. Always looking to grow and improve, and wanting to build cool things with cool people.”

His entrepreneurial superpower “is seeing an opportunity, and knowing how to build a team who collectively are always looking to improve the ‘thing’ that we have created.”

Michael’s other business is OneStay, a community and accommodation solution for business travellers.

He is also passionate about empowering early stage companies and offers this advice: “Surround yourself with people who are more knowledgeable and experienced than you are. Always be eager to learn and never settle.”

Michael graduated from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Science conjoint degree.
