Innovators shine at Distinguished Graduate Awards

The University of Auckland recently held a celebration for this year’s recipients of Distinguished Graduates Awards. Among the recipients were thirty Innovation Pathway participants, who collectively completed over 840 hours of experiential learning through the Business School’s Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE). In addition, some CIE participants earned credits towards a Distinguished Graduate Award through participation in leadership experience opportunities such as the Velocity Committee. Award recipients received their certificate at a recent celebration event held at the Fale Pasifika.

The Distinguished Graduate Award is the highest accolade in the Co-Curricular Recognition Programme at the University of Auckland. To earn it, students complete co-curricular activities, choosing two out of four available paths: Community Engagement, Leadership, Global Citizens, and Innovation. Each path requires 40 hours of activity, a workshop, and a reflective piece. Following this, students attend a workshop and undergo a panel interview. The award is noted on their academic transcript upon graduation.

The Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) supports this program through activities like Velocity, Venture Lab, Summer Lab and technology training sessions.

CIE Engagement Manager Naomi Bradshaw says “Distinguished Graduate Awards offer an opportunity for students to have the additional experiential learning they receive at University recognised in a formal way. It provides a way to showcase to prospective employers that they have a growth mindset and are motivated to develop personally and professionally. The Co-curricular Recognition Programme is an excellent initiative by our colleagues at Campus Life and we look forward to seeing more CIE students receiving awards next year.”

Congratulations CIE award recipients!
