About the Programme:

Develop transferable skills, build connections, and make a real impact with Velocity.

As a member of the Velocity Leadership Committee, develop sought-after skills, gain leadership experience, and contribute to one of the University’s most celebrated initiatives. Recognised by industries as some of the University’s most driven and high-achieving talent, Velocity committee members are problem solvers, innovators, and creators of value.

Each year, around 30 students join the Velocity Leadership Committee, becoming part of a legacy that has been positively impacting Auckland, Aotearoa, and the world for over 20 years. No matter your background, expertise, or faculty, we want you to be part of the team shaping the future of innovation and entrepreneurship.

Your Opportunity:

  • Development: Access professional development workshops (e.g., public speaking) to gain transferable skills that will elevate your career.
  • Networking: Connect with the broader Velocity community, the entrepreneurial ecosystem, and inspiring ventures participating in our programme.
  • Recognition: Earn credits towards the Co-curricular Recognition Programme, meeting the requirements for the Leadership path—taking you halfway to achieving the prestigious Distinguished Graduate Award.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Leadership: Champion and lead projects while being supported by a team of peers.
  • Practical Skills: Depending on your subcommittee, gain experience in project management, event management, graphic design, web development, and professional communication—highly valued workforce skills.

You’ll leave with lifelong skills, new friendships, and transferable abilities that any employer will seek.

What’s Involved:

The Velocity Leadership Committee is organised into subteams, each focusing on specific components of Velocity but united by a shared purpose: creating a world-class programme.

Each subteam has one or two leads who, alongside the CEO and COO, ensure the smooth delivery of the programme, focusing on areas ranging from marketing to outreach, events, and challenges.
