Laser cutter

The Maker Space has a Trotec Speedy 360 laser cutter that will enable you to make all sorts of things from all sorts of material.

What is a laser cutter?

Laser cutting uses a computer controlled high powered laser to cut or engrave a vector design out of a chosen material. It does this by either melting, burning, or vaporizing small amounts of material.

What can you do with it?

A laser cutter can be used with acrylic, wood, MDF, leather and cardboard to cut out and engrave designs. What can you create with this machine? The sky is the limit! Some examples include 3D structures like boxes, lanterns and cases; and simpler 2D items like keychains, ID badges and tokens.

Ready to get started?

To use the laser cutter for your own project, you’ll first need to gain access to the Maker Space by signing up, and then you’ll need to book an equipment training session.

To help you create whatever you imagine, download our quick reference user guide and one or more ‘inspire’ guides; and for hands-on guidance, you can attend one of our regular workshops. We also have trained creative technologists onsite to lend a hand.
